WHILE MUSIC has been Tom Colvin's life-long
passion, communication has been his vocation. He has specialized in
helping educational institutions and non-profit organizations to tell
their stories to the world. Now his efforts are directed toward
communications in behalf of cultural endeavors.
During his career, Tom served as Director of Communications for the Choate School, a private boarding school in Connecticut, and Occidental College in Los Angeles. In the mid-1970's, he developed training programs for public relations officers and fund raisers for a national professional organization, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, based in Washington, D.C.. From 1986-1997, he was an Information Officer at the Asian Development Bank in Manila, with responsibilities for electronic media relations and audio-visual production. From 1976 to 1986 Colvin maintained a free-lance AV production practice, operating under the name SOUNDCEPT. His work became nationally known especially for his innovative sound tracks, earning numerous awards. In the early 1990's, Colvin resumed free-lance work on a part-time basis, operating under the name of COLVIN: words/sounds/images, which better captures the breadth of his communication interests. He has written a number of articles for newspapers and magazines, usually accompanied by his photography. In 1992, he mounted a one-man photo exhibit entitled Simple Sample. In 1993, his photography was the focus of a cover story feature in Taipan Magazine, and his work is included in coffee table books on Manila and Makati. In 1998, he created the www.bluesasia.com website [now discontinued], which was cited in Billboard Magazine. Colvin now splits time between the Philippines and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. In 2000, he set Music Puerto Vallarta email newsletter, which promotes live music performance in that favorite resort. He is also very active as a blues musician in Mexico. For several years, he has been a featured performer at the Guadalajara Blues Festival. In 2003, LAMPANO ALLEY, his blues band in Manila released its first CD, Songs From The Alley. This band's website is: An internet search via Google or Yahoo will uncover many links to articles and reviews about this band. Colvin is currently engaged in a large research project into the commemorative monuments and public sculpture throughout the Philippines, and he hopes to duplicate this work in Mexico as well. He is available for free-lance assignments in the Philippines, Mexico and the US.
