Edwin Vergara
guitar
| "Binky's
guitarist...was a revelation, playing soulful guitar throughout. His
solos were characterized not only by aggressive overbending and vibrato,
but also by dynamic subtleties and variations in tone. Tearing
through terrifying but tasty blues licks with ease, his fretwork was
incendiary..."

EDWIN
BEGAN playing the Manila club circuit in the mid-1980's, but eventually
withdrew from the scene.
Binky Lampano coaxed him out of retirement to join Lampano Alley in 1996. Edwin and bassist Simon Tan are largely responsible for the arrangements of Binky's original songs. Together they bring a fresh perspective to the blues, preferring rich chords and unusual comping patterns. As a soloist, Edwin plays with a stolid intensity, set off by a clear, ice-pick tone. He turns more mellow when he picks up a classical guitar. |
