This CD-ROM Introduction to Lampano Alley represents some of the fruits from LAMPANO ALLEY's musical journey since the Spring of 1996. Many friends of the band have assisted us along the way and contributed in various ways to the production of the CD-ROM.
First and foremost is Peter Paulenz and Vicky Tsai Tee, whose unwavering encouragement and sponsorship has meant more than he will ever know. Without
them, Lampano Alley's self-produced album would not have progressed so easily.
All video clips on this CD are owned by their respective producers; they are copyright protected. We wish to thank the ABS-CBN and PTV television networks, the producers of Martin Late@Night and Concert At The Park, and the Zen Center, sponsor of the Ugoy-Ugoy concert The Real Swing. Aside from Stay, Go and
Moon Dance, all songs in the video clips are Lampano Alley originals.
The CD also presents some pre-release samples from our album Bolt From the
Blue, which features all originals. We had incredible engineering
support from Lito Palco of Bravo Recording Studio. while owner Kuh Ledesma made
some special arrangements which facilitated our recording there. Dan Gil
of Sound Minds looked after mastering, as well as adding some keyboard and tenor
sax backing on a couple of tracks. We wish to thank "Robert," a fan who has missed only a few of our weekly Hobbit House gigs over the past few years, for taking the initiative of working with the house sound technician to record a bootleg cassette of our two-set performance on July 4, 1998. We knew nothing about this recording -- but once we discovered it, we realized Robert captured a good sample of the band in actual club performance.
Lampano Alley has been accorded unusually broad and page-splashing coverage from the print media. We wish to thank all of the publications and writers, some of which are represented on this disc, for their attention. They have surely helped us spread the gospel of the blues in Philippines. We also wish to thank Bill Huang for permission to use his piece about Binky from the Ugoy Ugoy concert program and Jim Ayson, majordomo of PhilMusic for his support over the years.
Most of the photographs on this disc have been taken by photographers who are close friends of the band -- Eddie Boy Escudero, Raul del Rosario, Richie Abrina, Larry Ramos, Patrick Uy, Gerry Kaimo and Roger Pullin. We are very grateful for your help.
Steve Griffiths offers valuable assistance with video matters.
The band has surprised many people with our very busy gig schedule -- with performances at least twice a week, and sometimes as many as five a week. No one thought this would be possible for a band dedicated to the blues. For this, we thank all the club owners who have boldly booked Lampano Alley and the fans who have justified their decisions. We especially wish to thank Jim Turner and Mark Velasco of the Hobbit House, where the band has been playing weekly since 1996 -- this notable alternative music institution has become more-or-less our home base. We also thank: 70's Bistro, the Hive Radio Cafe, Mayric's, O'Reilly's, Conway's Bar [blues at a 5-star hotel happy hour?], Paulener, Beck's Bar, Hard Rock Cafe, Heckle and Jeckle, Inca, Oracafe, Freedom Bar, Liquid, Fib's, Cafe Caribana, Republic of Malate,
Drums, Siglo, Tribu, Bourbon Street, Gotham and Suburbia. Very special thanks goes to Tata and Lynn Francisco of Dovetail Productions, whose First Manila Blues Summit significantly advanced the interest in the blues in Manila; they have also encouraged Binky's emerging jazz career.
The Hive Radio crew, Hoagy Pardo of NU107's Crossroads
and Bob Magoo of The Blues Sessions have given the band substantial
support over the airwaves. RJ Music City has assisted the band with
provision of equipment for concerts from our very early performances.
No band prospers without its friends, fans and supporters. We've been blessed with our share.
